The York Charity Sleepout: About The Charities
You may have seen a lot of talk about the York Charity Sleepout over the last few months and may be interested in taking part but not sure what it entails…
The York Charity Sleepout is a fundraising event where participants spend a night sleeping outside under the fan zone at the York City stadium to raise money and awareness for the issue of homelessness in York. The event is raising money for SASH, the York City Football Club Foundation, Restore and Kitchen for Everyone York (KEY).
While the Sleepout doesn’t replicate rough sleeping, it gives participants a small insight into some of the challenges people face when they don’t have a safe place to stay. Money raised will go directly to supporting young people, families, and rough sleepers in York to provide emergency accommodation, ongoing support, and long-term solutions to break the cycle of homelessness.
About SASH:
SASH helps young people in need by providing them with a safe environment in which to stay, either on a short-term basis through its emergency service, Nightstop. Or on a longer-term basis (up to two years) within its Supported Lodgings scheme.
We offer an enhanced support programme for young people, which helps them to build emotional resilience and wellbeing, provides education, employment and training opportunities and equips them to develop key skills to live independently in the future.
About the York City Foundation:
The Foundation supports the local community by providing sport and physical activity; educational; social and healthy lifestyle opportunities as well as creating a pathway for development, talent and competition for all ages.
The impactful work of the Foundation is aimed at improving community cohesion, reducing social isolation and loneliness, addressing holiday hunger and young people’s health.
About Restore York:
