Isaac
*Isaac, 20, came to SASH through our emergency accommodation service, Nightstop, in the East Riding area.
“I used Nightstop so I wasn’t on the streets”
“I used the Nightstop service so I wasn’t on the streets. At that time, I felt suicidal and I was thinking about taking a drug overdose because I didn’t want to be alive. When I used the service it was a big relief and it felt like it was a pathway for me to find the right direction in my life. I really did feel like I had hope and was on the road to something better.
“My Nightstop hosts made me feel welcomed, supported and safe”
My Nightstop hosts made me feel welcomed, supported and safe. I felt like I had moved away from the issues and the people that were causing me problems in my life. Tina and Andy were supportive and I feel like they guided me in the right direction. I was bit anxious because I thought they might be like really strict parents but it wasn’t like that at all. Tina and Andy are good people, really nice. I would like to say to them keep doing what you are doing and cheers for letting me stay with you.
SASH did the referral to Emmaus for me and they talked through what Emmaus was and told me about the community. My hosts talked it through with me too and we looked at the benefits and how it would help me.
“SASH literally saved my life”
I would always tell anyone about SASH and what they can do to help if you are homeless. SASH literally saved my life and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for what they did for me. Thank you to everyone who has helped me.”
Since leaving SASH’s Nightstop service, *Isaac has joined an Emmaus community in Hull and is growing in confidence and learning new skills every day. Emmaus is an organisation offering communal living spaces across the UK for people who’ve experienced homelessness. Residents at Emmaus accommodation are offered companionship and work opportunities for as long as they need it.
