Completing The Yorkshire Three Peaks In Honour Of Billy
“In honour of my brother Billy, I will be completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks to fundraise for an amazing charity called SASH (safe and sound homes).
The Yorkshire Three Peaks is something that was on Bills bucket list and I know he would be so so proud of me for achieving this for him, so why not make him prouder by fundraising for something close to his heart?
Homelessness is something that was always very close to Bills heart and unfortunately something he faced in his younger years. Whenever I was with Bill in town he’d always stop to have a chat or give to someone less fortunate and I admired him for that.
Being homeless isn’t only sleeping rough, but sofa surfing, hostels, shared housing, staying somewhere unsafe and not having a place to call home is just the same and is something that many people face at some point in their lives. In 2019, 73% of young people had sofa surfed because they had nowhere to go & 68% felt unsafe.
I have chosen this charity because they work to prevent homelessness in young people (16-25) throughout York, North & East Yorkshire. They have a brilliant team who not only provide emergency and long-term accommodation but also a resettlement project – providing young people with the skills they need to manage a tenancy and thrive independently. As well as this, they provide (SASH enhancement) opportunities and experiences to help combat other issues the young person may face, to help boost their self esteem, education and mental health.
I will be aiming to complete this at the end of September, anyone who knew Bill would know he loved his wild camping so we will be camping for the weekend too.
Please help me reach my goal for this amazing cause!!”
