Nathan
Nathan hasn’t been with SASH hosts for long, having moved into his placement from foster care in August, but he’s already getting stuck in with learning some new independent living skills. His host snapped him ironing bed sheets for the first time and helping out round the house.

“It’s been fine moving in with my hosts”, says Nathan. “They are really nice people, really kind to me and fair.”
Asked what it was like moving in, Nathan replied, “Yeah good – my hosts explained things to me and I’m sorted in my room now”.
For Nathan, joining a SASH Supported Lodgings placement felt like a natural move on from fostering and he’ll be staying in SASH until he feels ready to move on to his own place. Being with SASH means Nathan can continue studying mechanics at college as well as working at his part time job.

We asked Nathan what he’s enjoyed about being in SASH so far and he told us: “My hosts are helping me learn about healthy eating and I’m learning how to live on my own. It’s nice and relaxed and I already feel like I’ve been here forever!”.
SASH believes every young person deserves a chance, and we’re committed to supporting vulnerable young people. Your support means we can help more young people like Nathan make the transition into successful independent living. Youth homelessness comes in many forms. Not all of the young people we support have been sleeping rough when they are referred to us. They come to SASH for a variety of reasons including family breakdown, bereavement, issues leaving the care system or to flee abuse. Often young people will have been sofa surfing for a period of time before being referred to us. You can find out more about our work here and help support our work here.
