Dorien Scheets
Trustee
Dorien is a postgraduate student of Applied Human Rights at the University of York. She is also an employee of the University, where she supports young adult students by providing pastoral care and direct support via campus and community-based resources, community, and services.
She has aided in the founding and development of nonprofits geared towards combating generational poverty and homelessness in the United States and has partnered with various organizations to engage greater inclusion, equity, and community-based support for young people and adults alike. Recently, Dorien has partnered with the Scalabrini Centre of South Africa and UNICEF to conduct research on barriers and best methods to safety and security for (unaccompanied) asylum seeking, refugee, and migrant children in South Africa.
As a trustee with SASH, Dorien hopes to grow closer and deeper community connections in Yorkshire and support young people as they come to know themselves, empower themselves, and find their path forward and upward.
